Norton City Council adopts multiple budget, zoning and administrative measures in unanimous votes

Council approved a resolution opposing House Bill 335, which council said would eliminate unvoted “inside” millage and transfer certain local budget authority to county budget commissions. Council also adopted a resolution directing that a proposed renewal and increase of the city’s fire tax levy be placed on the November ballot.
On routine financial business, council adopted Appropriation Amendment Ordinance 56-20-25 and Transfer Ordinance 57-20-25. Council also approved rezoning and development items: Ordinance 58-20-25 rezoned property identified as the Linger Lumberjack site from R-3 to I-1; Ordinance 59-20-25 approved the final replat for Brookside Greens Clubhouse; Ordinance 60-20-25 approved a final site plan and conditional use permit for two Barber Road parcels for a container-rental business. Several other ordinances on second readings (61–63, 64) and a first-reading memorandum of understanding for a school resource officer (Ordinance/Resolution 69-20-25) were presented.
