Council authorizes Walters Pond storm-sewer project and temporary easements

The City Council approved a project to reconstruct the storm-sewer outlet serving Walters Pond and authorized acquisition of temporary easements from three private properties to complete grading, storm-sewer installation and site restoration.

Project scope and property access City engineer Matt Tolan described the work as reconstruction of the storm-sewer outlet from Walters Pond Lane to the private Walters Pond. Plans require temporary easements from three properties to allow equipment access; a portion of the outfall lies in an existing permanent easement.

Resident concerns and staff responses Resident John Scofield, 1256 Walters Pond Place, thanked the city for pursuing the repair and asked about access logistics and protecting adjacent property, driveways and an electrical transformer and communication pedestals positioned near the easement. Matt Tolan said Cedar Falls Utilities (CFU) will relocate two communication pedestals behind the existing electrical transformer (which cannot be moved), and the city plans to use existing permanent easement access at the south side of the electric box. The city intends to erect construction fencing, replace disturbed lawn with sod and reinstall concrete where necessary. Formal action The council approved a resolution authorizing the public-improvement project and authorizing acquisition of the temporary easements. The vote carried on roll call with members voting aye. Staff said they will complete coordination with CFU and property owners and proceed with construction scheduling and temporary-access agreements.
