Presenters said the insurance company should reimburse approximately $25,550 to cover rebuilding the sign as it was. Administrators proposed applying the insurance proceeds toward an electronic sign that would cost $52,765, noting the digital option would allow video displays and greater flexibility for parent messages and event notices.
Staff described the proposed electronic sign as similar to installations at other district schools, with brick work and a video display module. Board members asked about the sign’s capabilities and vendor lead times; administrators said lead times for letters and other signage were affected by widespread damage and vendor backlogs.
The board was asked to place the sign-repair/upgrade item on the consent agenda for a future regular meeting. No formal approval occurred during the work session.
