The Lakeville Board of Health on July 2 approved a design to replace a failed septic system at 9 Heritage Hill Drive, granting two groundwater variances and requiring several plan clarifications before final sign‑off.
Darren Hills of Foresight (Foresight/Ford's Head) Engineering told the board the existing system had two leaks and that the plan calls for removing the old tank, filling failed pits with sand and installing a standard dimensional pump system with a slight mound. "We got a failed system, 2 leaks," Hills said, describing the work and noting he found a favorable percolation rate allowing the proposed field to meet setbacks to neighboring wells.
The application requested a variance to reduce the required separation to groundwater from 4 feet to 3 feet and a variance on the tank inlet elevation because of slab constraints. Hills also requested that the field-size note be corrected on the plan (the field will be 15 by 35 feet) and that tank construction be specified as monolithic H‑20. The applicant proposed the liner bottom elevation at the 98 contour in places; board members discussed seasonal variability of the water table and asked the engineer to bring the liner down to intercept potential flow from the uphill grade if necessary.
A motion to approve the system upgrade at 9 Heritage Hill Drive, including the two variances and the specified plan corrections (monolithic tank, field size, and liner elevation), passed unanimously on a voice vote (Aye; three members present). The board recorded the plan revisions on the file copy and asked the engineer to submit corrected notes before final sign‑off.
