Sawyer County sheriff's office reports dip in patrol calls, lists crash and citation totals

The Sawyer County Sheriff's Office told the Public Safety Committee that patrol call volume decreased to 684 for the reporting period and that a three-month trend showed roughly 680 calls in April and 865 in May. The office said officers issued 28 traffic citations, 20 written warnings and 8 non-traffic citations during the reporting period.
The report listed 16 crashes during the period, two with personal injury, and noted total crashes to date of 134 with 25 personal-injury crashes and one fatality. The sheriff's office said those totals are on track with the five-year average.
The sheriff's office thanked the Wisconsin National Guard for assistance in reworking the terrain and layout at the City of Hayward shooting range, which the office uses for annual qualifications with partner agencies. The office also said the last of three new squad vehicles were delivered to Gencom for upfitting and will be ready for assignment later this summer.
The office said it will provide traffic control for upcoming community events including the July Jubilee, and for surrounding communities such as Stone Lake and Round Lake when staffing allows.
