The city will be closed for the July Fourth holiday and is preparing events at Devendorf Park, where the Monterey Pops will perform from about 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., officials said. The mayor urged patience and said emergency services will remain available.
“All of our crucial services will still be available. Police, fire, public works. We have extra staff here for public works. We'll be putting out extra trash collection, portable toilets,” the mayor said, adding that residents should call 911 for emergencies and the police nonemergency number for issues such as overflowing trash cans.
Separately, the city rolled out a new audio-visual system in the council chambers. Staff and vendors undertook a “top-to-bottom” replacement; officials said the system functioned well in initial use but that technicians will work through a punch list over the next month to refine audio and camera settings. The mayor thanked Joel, Daniel, Brandon, the Conti team, library staff and others for the work and solicited user feedback.
No new policy or funding vote related to the AV work was recorded in the transcript; the upgrade was presented as completed installation with follow-up technical tuning planned.
