The Bay County Board of County Commissioners adopted a resolution July 1 setting the assessment level for the county's local provider participation fund, a mechanism staff described as enabling local hospitals to capture increased Medicaid reimbursement through state and federal matching.
The county attorney explained the assessment is imposed on local hospitals, and the collected funds are matched at the state level to secure additional federal Medicaid reimbursement that improves hospitals' overall reimbursement for Medicaid services. Robin Godwin, president of Ascension Sacred Heart Bay in Panama City, addressed the board during the public hearing and said the resolution is critical to supporting the community's trauma, cardiothoracic surgery and expanding cancer-care services.
After public comment, a commissioner moved to adopt the resolution; a second followed and the board approved it on a roll call vote.
