BEAVER CITY — At its July 1 meeting the Beaver City Planning and Zoning Commission discussed possible changes to the city ordinance that currently requires conditional-use permits for home occupations and asked staff to consider locations suitable for multifamily housing as the city grows.
Jason, a planning staff member, asked commissioners to consider where Beaver City should allow more multifamily housing as the city grows away from a denser downtown core. He asked commissioners to identify areas they thought would be appropriate for multifamily development.
Commissioners expressed that the current ordinance language requiring conditional-use permits for many home occupations can be burdensome, particularly given the increase in remote work since the COVID-19 pandemic. One commissioner said the wording “should change a little bit” and suggested placing the issue on the next month's agenda to develop a recommendation for the city council.
The commission also approved the minutes from the June 3, 2025 meeting by motion and second. At the end of the meeting a commissioner moved to adjourn; a second was recorded and the meeting ended.
Commissioners said they would review the ordinances and prepare possible clarifications or administrative changes for future discussion and potential recommendation to the city council.
