Ravena Village approves $40,000 conservation grant, accepts bills and reports; DPW and fire department give summer updates

Department of Public Works and water updates at the meeting said crews repaired two water breaks — one on Westerlo and Maine in the hamlet and another on Winnie Avenue near Francisco’s — and flushed the high-service side and hydrants. Construction on a wet basin project at the water plant is under way, and staff reported no current water restrictions.
DPW staff reported that Mosier Pool passed its recent inspection and that the splash pad at Mosier Pool has been well received. On opening weekend, staff said more than 200 people used the pool on Saturday and a similar number on Sunday. Pool programming includes multiple fitness-class offerings and scheduled swimming lessons beginning in July.
Officials announced a planned water-line replacement to begin July 7 on Fulford Avenue, continuing down Dempster Street around to Railroad Avenue. The work may cause lane closures and traffic disruptions in the immediate area; village staff advised motorists and residents to avoid the area when possible. Officials said the work would temporarily change water flow at a single nearby hydrant, which will be fed from Central Avenue during excavation.
Other business: the board accepted a change to planning and zoning board meeting times, moving the monthly meeting to 6:30 p.m. on the last Monday of each month, and adjourned for the evening.
The board also received the Ravena Fire Department monthly report: Chief Kevin Phillips reported 20 calls in June and 92 year-to-date, including two possible structure fires, three motor-vehicle accidents on the throughway, mutual-aid training with neighboring companies, and use of the firehouse as a cooling station during a recent heat wave. The fire chief noted firefighter training achievements and encouraged the community to follow the department’s Facebook page for updates.
Votes on budget transfers, contract signature authority, planning-board time change and bill payments were recorded by voice in the meeting; all motions noted in the transcript passed following a motion and a second.
