Commissioners name new juvenile facility to honor Dan Golden with a forward-facing brand

Commissioner De Groot described two naming options: a person-based name, the Daniel T. Golden Juvenile Rehabilitation Center, and a program-oriented name, the Golden Path Youth Center. De Groot and staff said the Golden Path option had the most staff support in an internal tally and that it could serve as a brand to help sustain the program and fundraising over time.
At least one commissioner urged naming the facility after Golden in full to preserve the historical record of his contributions. A compromise motion proposed a hybrid that would include Golden’s name and the “Golden Path” branding. The board moved the hybrid proposal and the chair called for the vote. The motion carried with aye votes from the chair and other commissioners present; the transcript records “Chair votes aye. Motion passes.” The board planned a ribbon-cutting and name unveiling at a July 17 event.
Ending: Staff will prepare signage and a program announcement for the July 17 ribbon-cutting and will coordinate any donor or partner recognition consistent with the chosen name.
