Weatherford commission approves camera purchase, abatements, grants, interlocal dispatch agreements and routine appointments

The commission approved a revised vendor quote for a Pioneer Center camera system using equipment from the old police department; the purchase price stated in the meeting was $6,837.64 (original quote listed as $11,897.02). The motion to approve the capital budget purchase was made by Warren Goldman, seconded by Garrett Smith, and passed with Kendon Wood, Jimmy Ingram, Goldman, Smith and Mayor Mike Brown recorded as voting Aye.
Property-abatement actions: staff reported 52 notices of violation had been sent. The commission approved abatement for the corner lot at 400 North 6 (recommended for mowing) and ordered abatement of the overgrown south side of the mobile-home park at 101 Northwest Main Street. Motions were moved and seconded and passed with unanimous Aye votes.
Hotel/Motel grants and events: the commission approved a $10,000 premium advertising placement in the Travel Oklahoma Route 66 guide and approved a $16,500 grant to the Weatherford FFA Ag Boosters for the Western Oklahoma Goat, Sheep and Swine Classic. Both measures passed on unanimous votes.
Insurance and finance items: the commission authorized distribution of an OMAG escrow balance of $5,257.82 to be applied against the city’s workers’ compensation premium. Commissioners also approved a workplace wellness policy funded in part by Tobacco Settlement Endowment Trust (TCET) support as described in staff materials.
Boards and appointments: the commission appointed Kay Hagerman to the Western Plains Library System Board and to the Weatherford Public Library Advisory Board for three-year terms (07/01/2025–06/30/2028). The commission also appointed David Searcy to the Weatherford Public Library Advisory Board for the same three-year term. A resolution supporting Mayor Mike Brown’s appointment to the District 10 seat on the board of directors of the local municipal league was approved.
Contracts and interlocal agreements: the commission approved renewal of the agreement with Okie Safety Consulting to perform building-plan and suppression-system plan reviews and inspections; it approved the joint agreement with the State Fire Marshal’s office to grant jurisdictional authority for local inspections; and it approved interlocal agreements to provide 911 call-answering and emergency dispatch services to Blaine County (fire/EMS), the Blaine County Sheriff’s Office, and the towns participating in the dispatch arrangement. The commission discussed the Blaine County contract amount during debate; one figure cited in the meeting for a dispatch agreement was $286,014.99 per year.
The commission also approved the annual agreement with Southwest Oklahoma Community Action Group (SOCAG) to serve congregate and home-delivered meals at the Pioneer Center, including city supplementation of certain kitchen staffing costs.
Votes were recorded as Aye for each action unless noted. No dissenting votes were recorded on the listed approvals. The session concluded with a reminder about the city’s Fourth of July celebration and the commission’s adjournment.
