Hartland Consolidated Schools board appoints Danielle Custodio to trustee seat

The Hartland Consolidated Schools Board of Education appointed Danielle Custodio to an open trustee seat at a special meeting on July 1, 2025, voting unanimously after a nomination and second.

The appointment fills a vacancy until the next regular school election, the board said. The board also approved the meeting agenda and the minutes from its June meeting by unanimous votes earlier in the session.

Mr. Campbell nominated Danielle Custodio, saying, "I nominate Danielle Custodio." Mr. Keller seconded the motion to appoint. During roll call the six board members present — Mr. Scott, Mr. Gogolecki, Mr. Keller, Mrs. Shaw, Mr. Campbell and the meeting chair — each voted yes, and the motion carried.

Earlier in the meeting the board approved the July 1 agenda on a motion by Mrs. Shaw, seconded by Mr. Campbell; the same pair moved and supported approval of the minutes from the June meeting. Both motions passed on unanimous roll-call votes with the same six board members recorded as voting yes.

Board members and the superintendent thanked the six community members who applied for the vacancy and encouraged them to remain involved. The board chair outlined the appointment process at the start of the meeting, saying nominations would be captured in order and that a nominee would be appointed if a motion to appoint received at least four yes votes. The board heard no further nominations after Mr. Campbell named Custodio.

The appointee's first meeting as trustee will be the board's organizational meeting on July 21 at 6:30 p.m., and district staff (identified in the meeting as Mr. Hughes and Mrs. Braden) will contact Custodio to complete required paperwork and scheduling, the chair said.

No policy changes or additional actions were taken as part of the appointment; the item was limited to filling the open trustee seat.

The board adjourned after setting its next regular organizational meeting for July 21 at 6:30 p.m.
