The Monterey County Board of Supervisors adopted ceremonial resolutions on July 1 recognizing two local nonprofits for their community work.
Ventures, a local nonprofit that provides financial coaching, entrepreneurship training and other programs, was honored in recognition of National Financial Freedom Day and for its work in Monterey and Santa Cruz counties. The board noted Ventures' program outputs since July 2024, including financial coaching sessions, workshops and a local safety-net program called ALAS.
The board also proclaimed September 2025 as Young Adults with Epilepsy Awareness Week in Monterey County in recognition of YAWE's peer-support programming, mental-health resources, and community events (such as a walk and a golf tournament). Young Adults with Epilepsy representatives described peer support in Spanish, outreach and an expanding digital footprint that reaches families nationally and internationally.
Action and context: Both resolutions were adopted as ceremonial items without substantive policy debate and without roll-call opposition. Board members and nonprofit leaders used the moments to highlight service needs in the county and encourage public participation at upcoming events.
Ending: Supervisors urged residents to attend the nonprofits' upcoming events and thanked both groups for serving residents in need of economic and health-related supports.
