The City Plan Commission voted to approve a minor modification to the Phase 1 detailed plan development for the Forest County Potawatomi campus that authorizes four new Type A wall signs on the parking structure at 320 South 19th Street (File 250,250).
Kristen Connolly, DCD Planning, said the casino and hotel campus has a number of wayfinding and directional signs that staff was able to approve at the staff level; the requested minor modification is limited to four face-lit channel-letter wall signs, each roughly 60 square feet, that will be mounted on the north, south, east and west elevations of the precast parking structure. Significantly, the proposal keeps the signs on backing panels painted to match the precast.
Nut graf: Staff said the Menomonee Valley plan supports clear signage for major entertainment uses and that the requested wall signs are consistent with that guidance because they improve visibility for guests and deliveries.
Jakayla from the sign contractor said the new signage will clarify whether the garage is public or for casino/hotel use and that staff also updated dock and directional signs. The motion to approve File 250,250 carried unanimously; Commissioners Ronnell Washington, Katrina Crane, Tariq Moody, Jesus Gonzales and Allison Nemec were recorded as voting aye.
Ending: The signs are intended as wayfinding improvements; the applicant’s directional and dock signs were handled as staff-approved replacements and the wall signs proceed under the minor modification.
