Oak Grove Fire Department logs 53 calls in May; receives $2,500 grant for EV fire blankets

Oak Grove Fire Chief Engler told the council on June 30 that the department responded to 53 calls in May, bringing the year‑to‑date total to 298.
May activity included two building fires, one grass fire, one illegal burn, two motor vehicle accidents, 30 medical calls (including five cardiac arrests, one stroke and three difficulty‑breathing calls), one rescue, and other public‑assistance responses.
The department received a $2,500 grant from CenterPoint Energy to purchase blankets intended to assist with electric‑vehicle fire response, Chief Engler said; the department is arranging how the grant will be presented. AEDs are being installed in newly placed public AED boxes around the city and will be monitored soon. A new firefighter hire begins academy July 8 and is expected to finish around October.
Chief Engler described a rise in calls and noted some entries coded as "special incidents" when returned reports do not neatly fit other categories. Council members thanked the department and had no further action items.
