Ponds project near completion; Viking Boulevard paving July 14; culvert work timed for turtle season

City engineer Chuck told the council on June 30 that the Ponds project is potentially complete but still has punch‑list items to finish.

Chuck said the county’s work on Viking Boulevard includes temporary widening to the south, reconstruction of the north half of the road and paving of concrete slated to begin July 14; the county expects project completion by Sept. 12. He said the north‑side work should be finished by the end of July, at which point the contractor will shift operations.

A separate county project will replace a culvert beneath Seeley Brook on Rum River Boulevard (project referenced as on County Road 7). Chuck said that replacement requires a short full closure and must be done in September to meet wildlife timing: turtles must be out of the water before the work, with a target of completing in advance of Sept. 30.

Regarding Timmer’s Hideaway, Chuck confirmed roads lacking cul‑de‑sacs will include temporary turnarounds and permanent turnaround construction before the city accepts the streets.

Chuck and staff also noted state‑aid projects will be evaluated and staff expect to bring funding recommendations to the council in the coming month.
