Prince George's County Council held a public hearing July 1 on CR 53-2025, a resolution proposing a water and sewer category change for properties in the 2018 Water and Sewer Plan March 2025 amendment cycle. The change would reclassify a parcel on Allentown Road from Category 5 to Category 4, which would allow processing of preliminary plans and subdivision for a 10-lot single-family project on roughly 10 acres.
One speaker, who identified himself as Norman Rivera and said he lives on Allentown Road, urged the council to support the amendment. Rivera said planning staff, the planning board, DPIE and the acting county executive recommended approval and described the filing as the first step in the subdivision and community engagement process.
After the hearing the council moved to discharge the item from the Transportation, Infrastructure, Energy and Environment Committee (TIE) and refer it to the Committee of the Whole for further review in a work session. The motion to discharge was moved by the Vice Chair and seconded by Councilmember Ivy; the roll call recorded the motion carrying 11-0.
No final amendment was adopted at the July 1 meeting; the resolution will be considered in the Committee of the Whole during a subsequent work session.
