The Midwest City-Del City School Board voted unanimously to not renew its energy-management contract with Synergistics, a private company that had provided consulting and savings analyses for district energy use.
A district staff member recommended terminating the contract after reviewing expected versus realized savings. The presenter said some of the savings that had been anticipated when the contract was adjusted in December were not realized and that there have been “some other concerns,” adding that termination was in the district’s best interest.
Board members asked whether the district would replace the vendor or manage energy work internally. Staff replied the district retains a long‑standing energy-management team that can maintain the gains and that Synergistics primarily had provided early consultation and baseline recommendations. The presenter said attorneys had reviewed potential termination liabilities and the district was “in a good position” to end the contract without significant penalty.
The board discussed ongoing and planned improvements tied to the district bond, including LED lighting and HVAC work. One board member noted the district’s energy usage per square foot was low relative to peers, citing a prior 2021 review as context for ongoing marginal gains.
The motion to decline renewal passed by unanimous recorded vote: Dr. Daniel — aye; Miss Grant — aye; President Standridge — aye.
