The Indianapolis Department of Public Works is nearing completion of two major projects, the city's July "Tuesday 10" segment said: a two-way conversion of New York and Michigan streets from College Avenue to Ellenberger Park, and a roughly 10-mile expansion of the Nickel Plate trail from the Indiana State Fairgrounds to Noblesville.
City presenters said the two-way conversion aims to improve safety for cyclists, drivers and pedestrians and to increase foot traffic for businesses on those corridors. The Nickel Plate expansion was described as adding an approximately 10-mile segment and bringing the project—s catchment to nearly 100,000 residents living within one mile of the trail. The segment also said this year's construction season will add about 20 miles of trails citywide, including new greenways in the Eagle Creek, Grassy Creek and Pleasant Run areas.
The city did not provide construction completion dates, funding amounts or contractors in the segment. Listeners were directed to follow the Department of Public Works on social media for construction updates.
