Kennett Consolidated Board approves two principal hires, authorizes administration to pay bills and fill budgeted positions

The Kennett Consolidated School District Board of School Directors on June 30 approved two principal appointments and authorized the administration to pay bills and fill budgeted positions.

The board unanimously approved the personnel recommendations that appointed Erin Miller as principal of Greenwood Elementary and Dr. George Weinhart as principal of Bancroft Elementary. The appointments were presented by a district staff member and accepted by the board without recorded opposition. The board later voted to authorize the administration to pay any bills that come due and to hire budgeted professional employees and others, a routine authorization the board said will allow hires and payments to proceed over the summer.

The personnel recommendations were introduced by a district staff member who said Miller brings 26 years of experience in public education and has served the past five years as assistant principal at Kennett Middle School. The presenter said Dr. Weinhart has 15 years of experience, began as a fifth-grade teacher in Garnet Valley, has been an assistant principal at Garnet Middle School since February 2018, holds a master’s degree in instructional technology, and lives near Winch Westchester.

Board member Kramer addressed timing questions raised about the Greenwood appointment, calling Miller an "extraordinary educator" and saying moving an effective team member within the district is "the best thing for Greenwood." The board president called the motion and members present voiced assent; the meeting record shows no public comment on these items.

The authorization to pay bills and hire budgeted staff was described by a staff member as a customary midyear procedural motion that expedites summer hiring and ensures that all hires are later reported to the board. The motion specifies that appointments of professional employees and all bills, including procurement, accounts payable and ACH wires, will be presented to the board in the subsequent month for review.

The meeting included a roll call at the start. One board member, Mr. Finnegan, was noted as unable to attend on short notice; all other members present voted in favor of the motions. The board adjourned after completing the two items; no additional public comments were offered.
