Franconia Notch State Park seeks $754,000 for deferred‑maintenance projects; committee approves

Jace Worth, general manager of Franconia Notch State Park and the Cannon Mountain Ski Area, asked the Capital Budget and Capital Project Overview Committee to approve $754,000 in maintenance capital to address deferred maintenance across the mountain.
Worth said the request covers four main categories: exterior repairs to lodges (doors, windows, siding), lift maintenance (including a bull wheel bearing replacement and a haul‑rope replacement on the Zoomer lift), snowmaking improvements (including 6‑inch steel pipe replacements on Rock Garden and Gremlin trails and a programmable logic controller update for pumps), and equipment purchases for the maintenance fleet (an automotive tire bead/balance machine, overhead doors and a small lift for the maintenance garage).
"Presently, we, between heavy equipment and small vehicles, our single automotive mechanic services over 20 vehicles, but as a registered shop for the state, he oversees maintenance for well over 50 vehicles on an annual basis," Worth said, adding that the purchases would improve efficiency.
A motion to approve the request was made and seconded; committee members voiced assent and the motion carried.
