Laura Holder, Petersburg Medical Center’s home health manager, used the meeting’s public comment period to announce her resignation and to thank staff and volunteers who rebuilt the home-health program.
Holder praised longtime office manager Jackie Groan, saying Groan had been “the only reason Home Health has ever gotten paid” and called Groan’s impending retirement “well deserved.” Holder named several staff members who she said were essential to rebuilding the program, including Brandy Boggs and Stephanie Romine.
Holder also advocated for two operational changes. She asked the board to prioritize hiring a medical social worker to support safe discharges and to establish a clear, easy-to-access formal process for patients to provide feedback about care. She said the feedback process is not simply a preference but “a regulatory requirement.” Holder said those steps would support safer discharges and improve care coordination.
The board took the remarks as public comment; no formal board action on personnel or hiring took place during the public portion of the meeting.
Holder concluded by expressing gratitude to the community and staff for the opportunity to serve as a nurse in Petersburg for 16 years.
