Superintendent outlines five-phase strategic plan process and equity audit

Superintendent and staff presented June 26 a five-phase plan to build a district strategic plan linked to a stand-alone equity audit. The superintendent proposed an intensive community-engagement timeline in August and September, a drafting period from October to December, board iterations in November and December, and final approval in January.

Why it matters: staff said the equity audit will inform the plan's goals and that broad community participation is essential. The superintendent said the strategic plan will serve as a binding roadmap for the district's priorities and will be used to align budget and performance evaluations.

Details: phase 2 would include about 47 unique engagement events across schools, students, parents, staff, unions and municipal leaders. Phase 3 (October'December) would analyze feedback and produce drafts; phase 4 would communicate the final plan broadly with short videos and a public-facing dashboard; phase 5 would implement and monitor progress with quarterly and annual reports. The superintendent recommended aligning the plan to the state's 5Essentials framework to measure school organization and progress.

Next steps: administrators will review the work already under way and staff will begin scheduling the August-September engagements, bring a draft to the board in November and a final draft in December for approval in January.
