Laredo ISD Board of Trustees on June 26 selected Guillermo Pro as interim superintendent following interviews conducted in executive session, the board announced at a special-call meeting at the Amber Urie Boardroom.
The trustees recessed into closed session under the Texas Government Code to interview applicants and returned to open session at 8:32 p.m., at which time the board moved to appoint Guillermo Pro. The motion was seconded and passed, with the board recording a 6–1 vote in favor. The board did not announce any action taken during the closed session itself.
The selection came after the meeting convened at 5:30 p.m. and an initial roll call established a quorum. Board members said the interviews were conducted during a closed session pursuant to Texas Government Code §551.074 (personnel matters). Board members then made the appointment in open session by formal motion and vote.
Trustees also read routine communications after the appointment, including a notice that district offices will be closed the week of July 4 (the tax office will remain open) and scheduling items: a Business and Support Services Committee meeting Thursday, July 10 at 5:30 p.m., and the regular monthly board meeting Thursday, July 17 at 5:30 p.m.
The appointment gives the district an interim leader while the board completes any remaining hiring or transition steps. The board did not provide additional details at the meeting about the terms of Pro’s interim appointment, including start date, length of assignment, or whether a formal contract will be brought to the board for approval.
Minutes and posted board materials should be consulted for any supplemental documentation the board may release about the appointment or the interim superintendent’s responsibilities.
Upcoming board meetings and committee dates were announced before the meeting adjourned.
