Commission ratifies conversion of First Street block to one-way, adds angled and ADA parking for Civic Plaza

The Las Vegas Traffic and Parking Commission voted June 26 to convert the block of First Street between Bonneville Avenue and Clark Avenue to one-way northbound and to ratify parking changes implemented for the Civic Plaza expansion.
Joseph Norby, the city traffic engineer, said a contractor had already implemented the changes before the commission's full approval. Norby said the conversion and re-striping added angled parking that mirrors the south side of the street and resulted in roughly 10 to 12 additional stalls per block; staff also laid out several ADA-accessible stalls and designated stalls for city departments. He said public metered stalls will be overseen by the city's parking services team and two 15-minute "grab-and-go" stalls are designated for a future restaurant tenant.
Commissioner Stamper moved to approve the conversion and parking layout; Commissioner Calderon seconded. The commission recorded a unanimous vote in favor. Norby said Clark between the building and the new Civic Plaza has been vacated as part of the plaza project and that the changes are intended to provide additional parking, ADA access and traffic calming near the Civic Plaza and Bridal Park.
