County road updates: Lakeside East ribbon cutting, speed-limit studies and M-63 Lakeshore budget change

Berrien County road officials reported completed work, ongoing maintenance and several upcoming projects during the board's meeting.
Road Department Director Mark Hartlinger told commissioners that hot-mix asphalt pothole patching and countywide mowing are ongoing, that seal coating is being applied at selected locations, and that crews recently completed a chainsaw training and a work-zone construction safety class. Hartlinger also said Lakeside East Road construction has been completed and that a ribbon cutting will be held at 10 a.m. at 14949 Red Arrow. He said Lake Township’s portion of the project is scheduled to start July 25.
The department reported that Warrenwood Road will be closed to through traffic while crews install the last culverts. Hartlinger said there are seven road studies or speed-limit review requests pending; he noted that the Michigan State Police make final determinations on speed limits regardless of local or MDOT recommendations.
Commissioners were also told there had been a budget adjustment to the M-63 Lakeshore (formerly Lake View Trail) project; county staff said the revised budget differs from an earlier estimate but that the change will not cost Berrien County money. Dan Fetti was noted as the county contact on that item, and staff said formal paperwork would appear in the next two weeks.
Ending: The road department requested public patience for active work zones and invited residents to the Lakeside East ribbon cutting the following day.
