Fire commission budget adjusted at third county reading; commission reviews line-item changes

The staff member said the approved budget returned $55,000 to the protective-clothing line after prior years’ entries had muddied that account. Supplies increased by $15,000 and equipment general received an extra $35,288 compared with the administrator’s recommendation; contractual services grew by $57,000, MSA/IT services increased about $12,006.47, insurance rose by $10,000, and apparatus fuel received an additional $10,000.
The commission added a new line for iPads and monthly service under the fire commission budget; the staff member reported the iPads line item as "$5.71" in the transcript and said the line was intended to cover device costs and cellular service for in-truck devices.
A special-projects hazmat line received $50,000 to fund initial renovations and associated fixtures for the McDonald Ring House in advance of operations planned for 2027. Staff said the brush truck replacement was scheduled for this year and noted recurring vehicle-maintenance and capital needs remain a concern.
Staff reminded commissioners that some previous line-item entries had been misallocated in earlier budgets and that the approved amounts restore intended balances for protective clothing and other long-standing accounts. The commission discussed sending procurement bids and closing the request list for purchases tied to the budget.
