Board continues Amelia’s Way project; DEM digital backlog cited for delay

The Planning Board continued the public hearing for Amelia’s Way, 260 Old County Road (ID 2405), to Aug. 21, 2025, after the applicant said peer review had just concluded and the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management’s new online permitting system had caused an approximately two‑month delay to securing DEM approvals.
Applicant counsel Timothy Kane told the board the project had completed an “extensive” peer review process and that the engineer could file a physical alteration permit to the state this week; however, Kane said DEM’s new online system had delayed the upload and review of revised application materials. Kane asked the board to continue the matter so the applicant can return with DEM approval in hand. Board members urged that town staff and the applicant bring DOT comments on drainage and road impacts when the application returns. The board voted to continue the matter to Aug. 21 and directed the applicant to use the time to secure state permits and to provide DOT responses when available.
