County plans biennial tax-sale notices; clerk outlines time frame and process

The clerk explained the sale process, noting the county waits until taxes are delinquent for a multi-year window before moving toward a tax sale. At the meeting the clerk described the usual timetable: resolution in October, start of the process in January and completion of the sale in mid-summer the following year. "A year and a half ago we had a tax sale and we're trying to keep them on every 2 years," the clerk said.
The clerk said the current list includes roughly 50 parcels and that, as of the report used for discussion, about $200,000 in taxes were delinquent across recent years; these figures include earlier years' arrears and do not account for payments that may be remitted before the sale process completes.
Commissioners asked procedural questions about fees, notice and whether redemption is allowed; the clerk explained that advertising, attorney and processing fees are recovered from sale proceeds when possible, and confirmed the state's statutory procedures for notices and collection steps apply.
Commissioners directed the clerk to begin the notification and resolution steps so the county can proceed on the planned cycle and report back with final lists before any public sale is scheduled.
