"Donald called me and said, 'We have been ransomware ed,'" a staff member said, describing how the attack spread and required deletions down to the server level. The presenter said remediation took place over the weekend.
The board approved the administration's proposition to pay employees for the work lost on the affected day. The motion was made by Mr. Dubrak and seconded by Mr. Cannell; the board voted to approve the motion unanimously with two members absent.
Staff said the attack prevented employees from accessing computers and required IT and vendors to remove the infection from servers and individual machines. Officials did not present a cost estimate for remediation during the public portion of the meeting but said IT had traced the activity to an international source, which district staff summarized as originating in Russia.
