The Oldham County Board of Education on June 9 approved a supplemental early bid package to create temporary classrooms for the South Oldham High School renovation and accepted a deductive change order totaling $42,500 tied to soccer field improvements at Oldham County High School and North Oldham High School.
Board members voted 3-0 to adopt the consent agenda that included the facilities items after staff presented the supplemental material. Superintendent Dr. Radford noted a supplemental item for the B2 consent item regarding the South High renovation had been provided to the board for inclusion in the consent motion.
Facilities staff described the supplemental as an early bid package that will establish temporary classrooms ahead of a demolition phase of the South Oldham renovation. The staff presentation said the temporary-classroom work was being divided into five separate bid packages to free up space for demolition in the next construction phase.
Facilities staff also explained consent item 6, a change order for the Oldham County High School and North Oldham High School soccer field improvement project, was a deductive change order in the amount of $42,500. The staff said the reduction reflects agreed-upon line items, including assessments for delays not related to weather and some insufficient concrete finishes; the deductive change order will be taken from the contract amount to reflect incomplete or insufficient work.
The consent motion, which included the replacement of the packet’s B2 with the supplemental early bid package for temporary classrooms and the deductive change order, passed 3-0. Board Chair (unnamed) called for the motion; Miss Sheffer moved and Mr. Springer seconded.
Staff indicated the change order funds cover liquidated damages and other listed line items and that any future replacement of insufficient finishes would be paid from the contract account when deemed necessary by the district.
The district did not provide a construction schedule or estimated cost for the temporary-classroom bid packages during the meeting. Board members did not request additional formal amendments to the consent item on the floor before the vote.
The board took the consent items under a single motion and approved them unanimously (3-0).
