Washoe County trustees approve process to review, revise strategic-plan action steps for 2025'26

The Washoe County School District board on June 24 approved a staff-led process to review and, if appropriate, revise the 15 action steps in the district's 2023 strategic plan for the plan's final year (2025'26). The motion passed unanimously, 5'0to'0.
Director of Research and Evaluation Dr. Laura Davidson told trustees the review would ask academic leadership to rate each action step on four criteria: completion status, available budget to finish the work, benefit to students and alignment with the plan's goals. Davidson said the district has been collecting milestone and program-evaluation evidence over the past two years and that some action steps are near completion while other significant district efforts are not currently featured in the adopted action-step list.
Davidson described the review as a prioritization and reporting exercise rather than an immediate reallocation of funds. "It doesn't necessarily mean that if one of our action steps receives lower scores on this rubric, that we would stop work on that action step next year," she told trustees, adding that existing funded efforts would continue and that the process aims to clarify which efforts should receive prominently reported attention next year.
Trustees asked for clarity about how staff would present findings. The review timetable calls for academic leadership to complete rubric scoring by mid-July, followed by stakeholder review and presentations to associations and departments. Staff plan to return to the board on August 26, 2025 with a revised set of action steps and associated metrics for public reporting.
Board members praised the approach as an efficient way to build on prior work rather than redoing the entire strategic plan. The motion directs staff to proceed with the review and to bring recommended action-step revisions and reporting metrics to the board in August.
