Highways division reports paving, mowing limits and truck-delivery delays

Kenosha County Highways staff told the Public Works Committee June 23 that paving and typical summer maintenance activities are underway, that state-highway mowing is contractually limited to once per year, and that some fleet deliveries have been delayed by a wheel-supply issue.

Staff said crews have paved sections of County Trunk Highway P and are completing mowing, ditching and other seasonal maintenance work. County staff noted state contract rules limit full roadside mowing on state highways to once per year and that the county will focus on vision-triangle and safety cutbacks outside that annual pass.

The division reported the installation and calibration checks of radar speed signs on County Trunk Highway KD and the near-completion of a multiuse path on County Trunk Highway C between 100th and 20th Avenue and 130th and 6th. Staff said mechanical and fleet staffing remain largely filled but that two highway patrol worker positions remain open.

On fleet procurement, staff said two single-axle trucks had been delivered and set up and two tri-axle trucks remain with body builders; deliveries for those are expected in late 2025 or early 2026. The division also said one-ton truck orders were canceled by the manufacturer due to an unexpected shortage of a wheel component; staff described industry-wide supply disruptions as the reason for the cancellations.

Staff said they will continue to report on staffing, truck deliveries and calibration of radar-sign messaging and will present budget implications as equipment delivery windows become clearer.
