Washington County approves $400,000 Healthy Families grant application

Richard Lesch, grant manager in Washington County’s Office of Grant Management, asked the Board of County Commissioners to approve submission of a Healthy Families home‑visiting grant application to the Maryland State Department of Education and to accept the award if funded.
The board voted to approve the submission and acceptance of up to $400,000 for the Healthy Families program, which Lesch said is modeled on Healthy Families America and is intended to “prevent child maltreatment through early intervention, promote healthy growth, development, and strengthening of the parent‑child relationship.” Lesch told the board the funding period would run from July 1, 2025, to June 30, 2026, and that $6,606 of the award is for administrative support. He said no county funds are required for the award.
Commissioners made and seconded a motion to approve the request and recorded the vote as unanimous. No amendments or conditions were attached to the approval.
