Sheriff to open West Precinct in Gretna; board approves lease at Standing Stone Center

The Sarpy County Board on June 24 approved a lease agreement with Gretna 2 LLC for space at 11910 Standing Stone Drive, Suite 102, Gretna, to establish a sheriff’s west precinct.
Chief Deputy Jacob Betsworth and sheriff’s office leaders described the lease as the first permanent precinct for the sheriff in western Sarpy County. Betsworth said the space will provide a consistent local presence for road‑patrol deputies and serve as a response hub for the area. He said Gretna previously allowed the sheriff to use space in the old city building and the fire station but that the new lease will provide a dedicated office.
Gretna Mayor Mike Evans said the precinct strengthens the county and city partnership and credited county leadership for supporting local public safety. Evans and Gretna city staff worked with the sheriff’s office during planning, the county said; the city and county highlighted the arrangement as a long‑running cooperative relationship.
Commissioners voted to approve Resolution 2025‑159 authorizing the Standing Stone Center lease. The motion was moved and seconded and carried by the board. During discussion commissioners emphasized the need to “right‑size” staffing and resources for the precinct so the new office results in visible patrol and response coverage in the fast‑growing area. The sheriff’s office said details about staffing, dispatching and start‑up operations will follow and that a precinct helps maintain coverage without creating duplication of municipal police services.
The sheriff’s office thanked Gretna officials and the county’s commercial agent for finding an appropriate location and called the lease “a step forward” for local service delivery. No lease terms (rent, length) were read into the record at the meeting; county staff said the formal resolution and lease documents are part of the agenda file and available through county records.
The board approved the lease by recorded motion and vote and closed the item without further amendment.
