Albany County authorizes $420,000 clarifier parts purchase; water district budget amended

Albany County's Public Works Committee approved an amended purchase order June 23 to buy additional internal components for the county's primary clarifiers and amended the Water Purification District's 2025 budget to cover the added cost.

Executive Director Gaudio told the committee that in March the county approved replacing internal components in two of four primary clarifier tanks from Brentwood Industries. Heavy wet weather in May caused damage to the remaining two tanks, and officials recommended buying additional components so all four tanks' internal chain-and-flight systems can be repaired. "Back in March, we received approval to buy primary clarifier parts from Brentwood Industries...we had planned on replacing 2 full tanks out of the 4 primary clarifiers we had. Unfortunately, back in May with the wet weather, we got damage to the other 2," Gaudio said. He described the clarifiers as gravity-separation tanks with chain-and-flight systems that remove scum and sludge.

Gaudio said the purchase will add roughly $210,000 in components to the previous order, bringing the Brentwood total to approximately $420,000. He said about $210,000 will be reflected in a Water Purification District budget amendment (account code given in the packet as 4407 o). "We got damage to the other 2...so we're just looking to do all the internal work now," Gaudio said.

A motion to authorize the additional purchase and to amend the Water Purification District budget was made, seconded and approved by the committee. The transcript records approval by voice vote; the record does not include a detailed roll-call tally.
