Legislature approves multiple Health & Human Services contract renewals, hires and youth-employment funds
Summary
The county approved a package of Health & Human Services resolutions renewing service contracts, filling several budgeted positions exempted from the hiring pause, and accepting increased summer youth employment funds that will serve up to 65 young people.
The Cayuga County Legislature on June 24 approved a set of Health & Human Services (HH) resolutions that included contract renewals, staffing fills and acceptance of state funds for youth employment.
Resolutions passed include: a contract for specialized school-based services to meet mandated education needs (HH 1); acceptance of funding for a program year running 07/01/2025–06/30/2026 (HH 2); authorization for Office for Aging contracts for home-based services (HH 8 and HH 9, including an agreement with Turner Helping Seniors, formerly Seniors Helping Seniors); and a contract with Access to Home Care Services for personal home care (HH 5). Several of the contract items were described in committee as 100% reimbursable by state sources.
The legislature also approved personnel actions that were described as fills exempted from the temporary hiring pause: HH 3 and HH 7 included budgeted fills for the Department of Social Services — three seasonal clerks for the HEAP program and a head welfare examiner vacancy following a retirement. Legislators noted that HH 3 is 100% reimbursable.
Finally, HH 4 authorized acceptance of increased summer youth employment program funds; officials said the funds will allow the county’s employment and training office to help up to 65 young people find summer jobs.
Each of the resolutions was moved, bundled where indicated in committee, and adopted on the floor with no recorded opposition during the final vote.
