The board recognized two fourth-grade students from L'Anse Creuse Public Schools chosen among 10 winners countywide in the Macomb ISD "Little Inventors" contest.
Dr. Sedick and district leaders introduced Olivia Biernat of Yacks Elementary, who designed a solar-powered "flower fan," and Nela Sabanovich of Green Elementary, who proposed a roadway-embedded conveyor concept to capture kinetic energy and power traffic signals. The district said each student's prototype was developed with local partners — College for Creative Studies helped with Olivia's prototype and Ascent Aerospace assisted Nela — and both were honored at the Macomb ISD inventor celebration on May 29.
The board also recognized student-athletes who signed to play at the collegiate level and those who qualified for state tournaments. Superintendent Howell named numerous students across the district and encouraged a group photograph; named signings included Mackenzie French (ice hockey, Chatham University), Ryder Zeman (baseball, Rochester Christian University), Jaden Bistoff (volleyball, Lawrence Tech University), Devin Wolscheidler (football, Alma University) among others. State qualifiers mentioned included Cooper Shane (state champion in 100-meter track) and several relay and field-event qualifiers from L'Anse Creuse High School.
Board members and the superintendent praised the students' achievements and thanked coaches and teachers who supported them.
