Superintendent posts flexible choir position as students press board to restore third section

The L'Anse Creuse Public Schools superintendent said the district will post a flexible 0.4–0.6 choir position for L'Anse Creuse High School North and review enrollment in August to determine whether a third choir section can be restored.
Superintendent Keith Howell told the board the opening is a response to retirements and enrollment uncertainty. He said posting the position at 0.4 to 0.6 full time equivalent gives administration room to respond if enrollment increases during summer scheduling and the district can convert the position to a larger assignment if warranted.
Students in the choir addressed the board during public comment. Desiree Redden, identified as choir president and a senior dance captain, said "This program means the world to me" and offered to collect and submit names of at least five students who could fill additional seats; she asked the board to set a deadline around August for updated rosters. Morgan Walters, the choir vice president, thanked the board and superintendent for engaging with the program and said choir is a reason she attends school.
Howell told board members the district will audit course selections and final student counts in August and will use those counts to make a final determination about adding sections. He said the district values choir and is working to find the right teacher to sustain and grow the program.
