The L'Anse Creuse Public Schools Board of Education entered closed session June 23 under the Open Meetings Act to consider dismissal, suspension or discipline of students and later returned to open session to act on expulsions.
After returning, the board moved and approved expulsions for four students identified in the meeting by case numbers 0406, 0409, 0413 and 0419. Each expulsion motion was made and seconded by board members; the roll-call votes recorded in the meeting minutes show each motion carried with all six board members voting yes.
The board invoked Section 8(1)(b) of the Open Meetings Act to enter closed session for the expulsions. Specific facts, evidence and individual student details were discussed in closed session and are not part of the open record; the board's open-session action lists only the student identification numbers and the expulsion outcomes.
Board policy requires that further procedural details about discipline hearings and appeals be handled according to state law and district rules.
