HDC approves signage for Virginica Pizza and the Oyster Company at Bridgegate Square

Sadie Flateman received Historic District Commission approval to relocate and install signage for Virginica Pizza and to place a small Oyster Company sign on an auxiliary shed at Bridgegate (Bridgegate Square, Hornet/Cornick Road). The applicant said a previous freestanding sign was removed and that window vinyl and building signage now fall within allowable area totals.
Flateman said window vinyl and the relocated pizzeria sign keep total building signage "way under" the local limit even after accounting for the removed freestanding sign. The commission reviewed tabulated sign areas and accepted the applicant’s explanation; a motion to approve the relocated pizzeria signage, two glass-window signs and the small auxiliary-shed sign carried by voice vote.
Commissioners asked the applicant to coordinate with the building inspector for any code or inspection requirements and welcomed the new restaurant. "I'm a huge pizza guy," one commissioner said.
The approval covers the specific signs reviewed and does not grant permission for additional signage beyond what was presented.
