Hermosa Beach council interviews nine for Parks & Rec seats as dog park, pool and July volleyball scheduling top discussion

Hermosa Beach City Council members interviewed nine applicants on June 24, 2025, during a special meeting to fill three terms on the Parks, Recreation and Community Resources Advisory Commission that expire June 30, 2029. Councilmembers Francois, Keegan and Jackson and Mayor Seaman led the interviews; the council postponed appointment votes to a later regular meeting.

Candidates repeatedly raised a small set of recurring issues from the parks master plan and community petitions: a proposed dog park, renewed discussion about a municipal swimming pool or shared pool use, scheduling conflicts for beach volleyball tournaments in July (including AVP and junior leagues), and court use and hours for pickleball. Several applicants also proposed broader ideas for outreach, youth engagement and using the 2028 Olympics as an opportunity to showcase Hermosa Beach.

Why it matters: park amenities and recurring special events affect residents’ daily use of public space, local businesses and peak-season traffic.
