Elkhart County tables health department cost-share application after applicant omits net-worth worksheet

The Elkhart County Board of Commissioners on June 23 tabled a cost-share application presented by the Health Department after the applicant declined to provide a net-worth calculation worksheet that county protocol requires.
Bill Hartziff of the Elkhart County Health Department told commissioners the attorney had flagged missing paperwork in the packet and that the omission raised concerns about proceeding without the full documentation. Hartziff said the homeowner did not submit the net-worth worksheet voluntarily. County discussion indicated the worksheet is part of the protocol used to determine eligibility and the level of assistance.
Commissioners noted the application packet did include documentation of annual household income ($42,009.89) but not the net-worth calculation. One commissioner moved to table the request so staff could obtain the missing material; that motion carried unanimously. Staff said they would follow up to secure the required worksheet before bringing the application back to the board.
