Airport advisory board forms development subcommittee to review commercial projects

Kootenai County airport staff told the Board of County Commissioners on June 24 that the airport advisory board has formed a development committee to review incoming commercial businesses and hangar construction proposals.
Gaston Patterson, director of the airport, said the advisory board created a subcommittee originally called the north side development committee that “morphed into the airport as a whole,” explaining that the group will review commercial development and bring recommendations back to the advisory board and to the BOCC.
Patterson characterized the advisory-board meeting as low-key, with no public comment and no additional actions beyond formation of the committee. He said the committee’s scope aligns with the advisory board’s bylaws, enabling a smaller group of advisory-board members and airport stakeholders to vet development concepts before wider review.
The BOCC did not take a formal vote on the committee during the briefing; the advisory board action was reported to commissioners as an internal governance step.
Commissioners Eberline, Duncan and Metari were listed as in attendance for the airport agenda item and asked no substantive follow-up questions during the update.
