Bannock County commissioners on Tuesday denied one indigent burial claim and approved another, and they authorized a release of lien on a paid case.
Chantal Laulu of the county's Indigent Services presented two applications. She recommended denial of case number 20250038 under Idaho Code 31-34-03 because the deceased and the applicant own property that appears to be a resource for payment before the county. She recommended approval of case number 20250039 for cremation expenses through Wilkes Freedom Home in the amount of $1,200; the applicant agreed to a $25-per-month repayment plan if approved.
The commissioners voted to deny case 20250038 and to approve case 20250039 with the repayment condition. The board also signed a release of lien for a previously paid case and authorized signature on a release of lien for case 2020020027.
Laulu presented facts and the statutory basis for denying 20250038; commissioners asked no substantive questions before the motion and voted "aye." The approval of 20250039 included the $1,200 payment to Wilkes Freedom Home and the $25 monthly repayment agreement recorded in the application.
The commissioners did not provide further public discussion of the financial status of the applicants beyond Laulu's statements.
