Staff described additional AI measures and choices: - AP Research/Capstone: students in those courses will be granted access to Google Gemini under district-managed accounts to support high-level research and to ensure the environment is controlled for data privacy and oversight. - Student access: general ChatGPT-style platforms are blocked for students on district systems; teachers retain access to selected AI tools for planning and instruction. - Training and safeguards: district leaders said they will continue mandatory teacher training on AI use, embed AI literacy in digital citizenship lessons beginning in middle school, and incorporate new-hire training on acceptable AI practices. - Data privacy and procurement: IT staff said every software procurement now evaluates where data flows, whether vendor systems train models on district data and whether the vendor can guarantee student-data protections.
Staff also noted federal- and state-level AI developments and an executive order with phased timelines; they said they are monitoring potential funding and compliance requirements as federal guidance emerges.
Board members asked about elementary use (staff said no initial plan to bring AI to elementary classrooms), pilot timing (Campo Verde as high-school pilot) and data handling. Staff reiterated that Google Gemini access for AP research will be provided under district-controlled Google licensing to limit data exposure.
