The Elkhart County Board of Commissioners on June 23 approved a 24-month customer subscriber agreement with Cogent Communications LLC to provide 10-gigabit internet service for the county and a separate contract for cleaning services at the new courthouse.
County Administrator Jeff Taylor told commissioners Cogent was offering “10 gig service for $400 a month” on a 24-month term and said the service is intended primarily to serve county operations, “the crux of it is for the new courthouse.” Commissioners voted to approve the agreement; the vote was recorded as unanimous.
Joe Lightman, buildings and grounds, recommended awarding custodial services at the new courthouse to White Pine Services after reviewing four proposals and references. Lightman said White Pine currently handles cleaning at the prosecutor’s building and that White Pine’s proposal was “not the cheapest,” but was the lowest-priced local bid at $20,857 per month. Commissioners moved and seconded the recommendation and approved it unanimously.
Both approvals were entered on the meeting record with standard motions and unanimous “aye” votes. The agreements will proceed as presented; commissioners did not record additional conditions on the contracts during the meeting.
Charges, vendors and contract lengths were discussed on the record by county staff during the June 23 meeting; commissioners directed staff to finalize the paperwork following the approvals.
Vote details and motions are recorded in the meeting minutes.
