White Plains board adopts 2025–26 districtwide safety and emergency management plan

The White Plains City School District Board of Education on June 9, 2025 accepted the districtwide safety and emergency management plan and the school building-level emergency response plans for the 2025–26 school year after a public hearing and presentation by district safety staff.
Jeremy Harrison, the district liaison who works with consulting firm Alteris, presented the plan during the board's public hearing and said the district updated its approach after numerous changes to State Education Department guidance last year. "We are well within the guidelines and rules and regulations of SED," Harrison said, adding the district has tried to "stay ahead of the curve" as SED guidance shifted several times and sometimes with short lead times.
Harrison described the plan as the product of districtwide work across personnel, technology and infrastructure and pointed the board and public to recorded quarterly districtwide safety team meetings posted on the district website for more detail. He credited White Plains City School District staff and partners — including district facilities staff and the White Plains Police Department — for supporting updates to protocols and implementation.
Following the presentation the board moved to accept the districtwide safety and emergency management plan and associated building-level emergency response plans for 2025–26. A motion was made, seconded and the board voted in favor. The meeting record shows the motion passed with the board voice vote, "Aye." The board did not record a roll-call tally in the public audio of the meeting.
Board members and district leadership framed the action as routine annual review and acceptance of plans required by New York State Education Department guidance. The district will continue to publish updates and maintain recorded safety-team meetings for public review.
No formal amendments to the plan were recorded during the hearing. The board's acceptance was listed on the meeting's consent/individual action agenda and recorded as approved by the board.
