Riley County Community Corrections told commissioners on June 23 it had been awarded $6,000 from the Daniel Keating Foundation and asked the board to accept the grant and to permit reallocation of unspent personnel funds to cover needed purchases before the KDOC spending deadline.
Megan Lewis, director of Community Corrections, reported program caseload numbers and described the grant award; Jesse Hefford, administrative assistant, asked the board to accept the $6,000 grant. Commissioners voted unanimously to accept the award.
Lewis also requested permission to reallocate unspent personnel funds in the department—s KDOC budget cycle because a Clay County position had been vacant and the department had hired at a lower rate. She said the department needed for fourth-quarter purchases a vehicle, miscellaneous equipment, and security and office upgrades; purchases must be completed by June 30. Lewis estimated $40,000 from adult services and $30,000 from juvenile services would be available for reallocation and said she would return with an itemized list of purchases.
Commissioners moved, seconded and unanimously approved the requested reallocation authority so staff could complete the purchases before the KDOC deadline.
Lewis said the department also awaited results from a Casey audit completed June 5 and that a recovery court graduation will be scheduled in July. Commissioners asked for a subsequent itemized accounting once purchases are finalized.
