District to migrate student information system July 22–Aug. 4; users will see staged rollout

The Battle Ground School District will migrate its student information system from Skyward SMS to Skyward Cumulative starting July 22, staff told the board on June 23, with the system unavailable to users during the migration window and a staged post‑migration rollout.

District staff said the migration work will make core modules available in phases after Aug. 4 while staff complete post‑migration configuration and training. Trainings have already started: the district's student coordinators provided more than 25 trainings, the business office more than six, and additional teacher previews and training materials are posted to a staff portal. Staff said the migration team will provide enhanced support through August and into September, tapering to standard ticketing support around mid‑September.

The district acknowledged some modules and workflows may experience short delays—examples discussed were fall sports registration and other pre‑school activities that normally begin before the academic year. To mitigate those issues, staff said they will keep the old SMS system available for applicant intake and use workarounds where necessary; they prioritized modules that must be available quickly, such as new student registration and consent forms. District staff said they are publicizing the downtime and training to families and staff.

Board members asked about the intuitiveness of the new system for families; staff said other districts reported the new interface was generally user friendly but that navigation will differ. The district anticipates a challenging summer for staff due to compressed timelines and fewer staff taking planned time off during the migration window.

No board vote was required for the migration update; staff will proceed with the scheduled migration and support plans.
